Q: How should I adjust calories for weight loss/gain?
A: We automatically adjust by ±500 calories/day for 1 lb/week change.
About the Harris-Benedict Formula
The Harris-Benedict Equation is a widely-used method for estimating basal metabolic rate (BMR) and daily calorie needs. It was originally published in 1919 and revised in 1984.
Formulas:
- Men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) - (5.677 × age in years)
- Women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) - (4.330 × age in years)
Your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) is calculated by multiplying your BMR by an activity factor.
